Last weekend I got tickets for Cuci the Musical 2 at Istana Budaya. I didn't know what to expect, because I cannot remember the review of the 1st Musical, and I was not that impressed with the movie. However, people were saying that this CtM2 is good. I got two tickets, a friend couldn't make it, hubby was not interested so that left Nayli, who is ever so willing, he!he!
Here's THE STORY taken from the official website:
"CUCI THE MUSICAL" is the story of four brothers: FAIRIL (Afdlin Shauki), KHAI (Hans Isaac), JOJO (Awie) and C' Tan (Nabil) who operate 'Cuci-Cuci Services', a small window washing company - and their dreams to one day be good enough to be the company that services the exterior of the tallest twin-towers in the world, the Petronas Twin Towers, KLCC. The brothers are given the opportunity to make their dream come true when Cuci-Cuci Services are invited to join the Window Washing Olympics (WWO) - a competition run by, Citi Jasmin or better known as CJ (Vanida Imran) - that awards the aforementioned contract to it's winner. Coincidentally, the defending champions of the WWO are 'Wira Maju' , a company owned by CJ's boyfriend, WIRA (Harith Iskandar). Meanwhile CJ's father, the TAN SRI (Rehman Rashid), keeps a watchful eye over proceedings concerned that his daughter might not be making the wisest choice in having WIRA as her partner for life. Sparks soon fly as KHAI and CJ develop an attraction to each other and simultaneously CJ's personal assistant, Jesse (Jaclyn Victor) falls heavily for JOJO. Experience the trials and tribulations - ups and downs - laughter and tears - love and heartbreak along with a dose of good old Malaysian comedy as we follow the four brothers on this journey. Layered on a bed of music and songs with unforgettable melodies and lyrics from DOUGLAS LIM and PACAI (@ DR SYED AHMAD FAIZAL AL-ATTAS ). This enthralling and classically heart warming tale of the under-dog struggling against the odds is sure to capture the hearts and touch the souls of the audience.
Our tickets, it was the Grand Circle, not particularly my favourite level,
but it was good enough.
It was Nayli's 2nd musical, click here for her first last year.
Can't see much I know, but this is about the only time you can take pictures...
During intermission, we had some refreshments, gosh, this free tickets business is nice eh?
Me and my girl.
OMG! It was fantastic! Superb performances by everyone in the cast. The four main characters, Awie, Hans Isaac, Afdlin and Nabil were outstanding! Awie - who would have thought Malaysia's own (tough as nails) Rocker could play such a character and with great conviction too! I was so glad that he got a solo performance, his vocals did not dissapoint, and so was his acting, he made his character soooo adorable! Hans Isaac, well obviously he was sooo easy on the eyes! At first his Beavis and Butthead laugh was quite you know irritating, but as the show wore on, I was kinda looking forward to hearing him snickering again. He!he! So bias, I know. Anyway, actually Hans Isaac has also improved his vocals! Impressive! Especially the scene on the gondola with Vanida. Afdlin as expected was flawless and as cool as ever. He carried the part of the eldest brother very well. Nabil, now this guy was a wonderful surprise. This musical confirms that this guy can sing and can act, not just a comedian. Nabil was Hilarious with a capital H! True, in some reviews during some scenes he actually projected himself in the character, (I don't know how AC Mizal potrayed C'tan) but Nabil did a very good interpretation of C'tan I think. Even if he did "become" himself sometimes, it was good and Nabil as THE Nabil as we all know and adore is outstandingly, crazily, ROTFL, funny! Even Nayli was LOL with me throughout the show. The other supporting casts like Vanida, Rehman Rashid, and not forgetting Jaclyn Victor and the rapper guy, whom later I found out to be Reefa were equally good too!
So all of you out there, if you can grab any leftover tickets, no matter how lousy the seats are, please go. I promise you that you'd be laughing the whole 3 hrs!!! Yes, the show was long, it ended at 12:15 a.m! 3 hrs of good fun, thank you hubby for ferrying us to and fro and waiting and waiting and waiting for the show to end!
The usual "curtain call" at the end of the show.
Good job guys!!!
My girl is still quoting some lines from the show till today!
